There’s plenty of beautiful destinations around the world just as romantic as Paris.

With February 14th fast approaching, if you plan on going away for the Valentine’s period, you’d better get your act together. Here’s a few different valentine’s day getaways for you to consider.

Budget or Luxury Valentine’s Day Getaway?

You don’t have to break the bank for Valentine’s Day. A long weekend in the UK countryside can be just as perfect as a week in the sun.

But obviously it all boils down to your budget. I’ve tried to offer a variety of places here, for both smaller and large budgets.

1. Cotswolds, UK

If you’re simply after a relaxing few days away, then to avoid sitting on a plane for half the weekend, stay close to home.

The Cotswolds is arguably the prettiest part of the UK. Take a romantic walk over the beautiful rolling hills, or explore the beautiful palaces and castles. Hunker down in a cosy pub in front of a crackling fire for the afternoon, or even just stroll through the lively Cotswold market towns.

2. Venice, Italy

In my opinion, Venice in February can be the best time of year to visit. There’s no battling with crowds at the attractions, or paying extortionate prices for Gondola rides.

Plus, the biggest event on the Venetian calendar occurs at this time, the Carnevale!

The traditional Carnevale began in 1162 as a way for the Venetians to get rid of their rich foods and drink before the start of Lent. Now, every year the locals throw a big party, compete to design the best medieval masks and costumes, and indulge themselves in delicious food.

Food, music, and parades? Sounds like the perfect Valentine’s Day getaway to me!

3. Scottish Highlands, UK

Parades and performances aren’t everyones scene though. For a quieter getaway, the Scottish Highlands could be perfect for you!

Head out to the middle of no-where for a relaxing retreat amongst the beautiful Scottish countryside.

Whether you’re more of an adventurous couple and want to spend your days cycling and rambling, or you want to spend the whole weekend in a luxurious spa hotel, you’ll find both here. Here’s Trip Advisor’s best rated Scottish Highland Spa Hotels.

4. Abisko, Sweden

Perhaps you want to get out the country and have an unforgettable Valentine’s Day getaway though. Maybe you should consider Sweden.

What’s more romantic than star gazing under the Northern lights?

Sweden is the cheapest of its Scandinavian neighbours, with return flights to Sweden in February pricing at under £100.

Head to Abisko to chase the Auroras, go dog sledding or snowmobiling through the gorgeous mountain scenery, and finish the night off in a cosy hotel, or if you dare, an ice hotel!

5. Canary Islands

The cold isn’t for everyone though, and the Canary Islands are always a great option for an affordable holiday with guaranteed sun.

Get away from drizzly days in the UK and head to Gran Canaria to soak up the sun.

Enjoy relaxing beach days or snorkelling tours, then finish the day off with a romantic meal at one of Gran Canaria’s most romantic restaurants.
